RESEARCH THEMES
Jan’s research on Sustainability and global Innovation and production systems
Jan’s research centers on supply chain innovation and global sustainable development. He investigates how global supply chains can transition from unsustainable practices to more sustainable forms of organizing and operating. This builds on a long‑standing interest in how industrial activities evolve in different regions and how these dynamics shape opportunities and constraints for suppliers and local communities.
His work spans Europe, Asia, and Africa, featuring case studies from the garment industry, information technology (IT), drone technologies, and creative sectors. The various research streams are connected by a practical interest in how supply chains actually change over time and why progress varies across different contexts, organizations, and regions. Jan has also pioneered new ethnographic intervention methods for sustainable supply chain management.
